As the clock ticked over to 2022, I was in tears – the overwhelming feeling of frustration, inability to and lack of sleep, and heat broke me. It wasn’t how I wanted to start the new year, I was hoping to be asleep.
But with that, I’m still looking forward to the new year. In a way, breaking down has provided me with the motivation and knowledge that I need to hit reset.
So, I’m hitting reset.
And the best place to start is with Elysian Haze.
Something different, something fresh
I’ve been meaning to write this post for a little while now. The reason being, I’ve been working away giving Elysian Haze a fresh new look – despite a lot of frustration (thanks WordPress).
Not a lot has changed, but at the same time a lot has changed. I purchased a new theme (still by the same designer as my previous theme), and I switched from a faded green to a light blue colour scheme. And the fun part of the new theme is that it has an interactive gallery when you load into my homepage – the five images above ‘welcome’. Although, I don’t think it’s interactive on your phone.
Giving Elysian Haze a new look for the new year felt right, and it’s inspired me to keep writing.
The most important & exciting part of starting the new year:
my cousin is joining the Elysian Haze team
This is definitely the most exciting part of this post. My cousin, Louise, is joining me and will be writing some posts for Elysian Haze.
Louise and I have always been on and off blogging, and as we both seem to love writing (we’re both studying it), I thought it would beneficial for us to team up. For me, having Louise write for EH means we can create more content for you all to read, which means there will be more posts. And I’m also hoping it helps keep the both of us inspired to write, while bringing us closer as cousins.
So, prepare for more content, and a variety of content too!
But with that being said, I asked Louise a few questions so you could get to know her a little more.
First things first, introduce yourself – how would you describe yourself if you were describing a friend to someone else?
It’s always a little awkward to describe yourself, but I guess I’d say I’m a pretty quiet and introverted person. I love to be creative and to be in nature, and generally prefer to listen to people than to talk.
What are your favourite things to do – hobbies, ways to spend your time etc?
I love anything creative – writing, drawing, painting, crocheting… As well as going on long walks, being around animals, reading and learning. But reading and writing are always what I come back to.
How would you describe your style when it comes to fashion?
I think my style is very much a mishmash – I love colour so a lot of my clothes are very bright and patterned, which means a lot of clashing. I used to be very into vintage fashion, but now I tend to just wear what makes me feel good and hope it turns out okay!
Who are your muses and why?
Creatively writers like Carmen Maria Machado, Angela Carter, Erin Morgenstern, and Sally Rooney amongst others have been huge inspirations to me, as well as artists such as Courtney Brimms, Frida Kahlo, Gustave Klimt, and Vincent Van Gogh.
What do you hope to offer the readers of Elysian Haze?
I hope that I can offer a little recluse from the world, a moment of stillness.
If you could change one thing in the world, what would you change?
The more I think about this question, the more impossible I find it to answer. There seems to be a never-ending list, and as an overthinker, I wonder how to possibly narrow that down to one thing to change, and all the possible effects of that change. I suppose given this, I’ll say the pandemic for now.
What songs are you currently listening to on repeat?
My music taste is a bit of a mess, but I’ve been listening to a lot of Hozier, Girl in Red, Lord Huron, alt-J, The 1975, and The Lumineers. My playlist at the moment includes Dinner & Diatribes, Bad Idea, Meet Me in the Woods, Get Better, Antichrist and A.M. Radio.
Describe your perfect day from the moment you wake up to the moment you fall asleep.
I’m a pretty quiet person, so my perfect day probably wouldn’t be anything too exciting. I guess just waking up and feeling peaceful and content, getting to choose whatever I want to do – probably going for a long walk, reading outside, writing – maybe doing some kind of art or talking to loved ones.
What are some things you’re looking to improve on /working on improving in your life?
At the moment my biggest focuses is my wellbeing and my relationships with others. I find it too easy to drift away from people, especially given all the events of the past two years, and am trying to keep engaged with those who are important to me. I’m also focusing on being more creative, writing more, starting new projects, making things for people – I always find doing this makes a massive difference to my quality of life.
And most importantly, are you excited to be writing for Elysian Haze? And what sort of content are you hoping to create?
Very excited if a little nervous! My content will probably be a little different to Drina’s, but themes of bettering yourself and adventure will hopefully still be present! I’d love to also do some artsy posts and maybe write a bit more about books as well!
And there you have it. I hope you’re just as excited as I am for what’s to come. I’m incredibly keen to welcome Louise into Elysian Haze, and I’m ready for the new year.
For me, 2022 is about working on myself for myself, and (obviously) becoming the best possible version of myself, and I’m ready for the challenge.
With that, I’d love to know if there’s any posts you’d like to see from either myself or Louise.
And, of course, happy new year!
