2020 has finally come to an end, and 2021 is here, ready and waiting. The new year always brings new hopes, dreams, and aspirations. The new year also brings (for some) new and even old new year resolutions.
I’d like to say I’m someone who doesn’t do them, and that I focus on improving myself all year round, but there’s something magical about a new year resolution. It hits differently (if that makes sense?). I create goals throughout the year, but the idea of creating and following through on new year resolutions excites me (like a lot). Even though, I know I more likely won’t follow through with them (oops).
So, as it’s now 2021, I thought I’d share with you my new year resolutions and their whys.
My new year resolutions
1. Drink more water
I’m not going to lie, this is an ongoing goal of mine. I don’t drink enough water, and I want to change that. It’s something that I’ve been continually working on, and very slowly improving.
I’m aiming to drink at least 2L of water a day.
2. Exercise consistently
I thoroughly enjoy a good workout. So, I know this one is possible. My aim here is to build up a habit, and create a routine where I exercise consistently over the year. I know that having rests and breaks are important too.
Too often, I’ll exercise consistently for a month or so and then I won’t exercise for another two months. It’s very up and down, and that’s what I’m wanting to change.
Exercise makes me feel good.
3. Hike more
I guess this follows on from exercise consistently. I love hiking and I want to do more of it. It’s as simple as that. There are so many trails that I want to explore and redo. I’m hoping to go on a hike at least every fortnight.
4. Do yoga consistently
This is a huge one for me, and something I’m going to try and make a priority. I love the way yoga makes me feel. I’ve just struggled immensely to create a habit out of it.
5. Start meditating
Likewise with yoga, I want to also start meditating, and really get into the routine of starting my day with five to 10 minutes of meditation.
6. To eat better and more
Something I’ve come to notice is that I don’t think I’m eating enough to properly fuel my body – I definitely want to change that. I also want to eat fewer animal products; I mostly eat a vegetarian diet anyway, but I want to further cut out animal products and eat mostly plant-based foods.
7. To cook more
Once again, this ties into my other resolutions. I don’t cook very often, and that needs to change. I want to learn to cook new recipes, make up my own favourites, and experiment in the kitchen. I’m hoping that by cooking my own food, I can really focus on improving my relationship with food.
8. To do better in uni
I’m happy with the grades I’ve been getting at uni, but I want to do better. I really want to give this year my all, and to get involved with uni life.
9. To use less plastic
I’m hoping to further reduce my plastic usage. It’s pretty simple.
10. To buy less
I’m hoping to cut down my consumerism in 2021.
11. To live consciously
This one is a big one. It’s my biggest one that kind of encompasses everything. I want to live more consciously. I’m going to make the effort to be more sustainable whenever I can. I’m going to make it a priority to reduce my impact on our Earth. I plan on documenting my journey here on the blog, and hopefully on YouTube.
12. To blog more
Lastly, I want to blog more. I always set this resolution, but I really wanted to make sure I follow through this time.
Well, there you have it! These are my 12 new year resolutions for 2021. If you set resolutions, what are yours?
